not prohibited by this section and thereby shall obtain any
spirituous liquors, and the person selling the same shall be
able to prove, at his trial, such misrepresentation and that he
used due precaution before disposing of the liquor as aforesaid
to said minor or other person, then the person so selling to the
said minor or other person falsely representing himself shall
be acquitted of the charge ; provided, that the act of any agent
under this section shall not be binding upon his principal,
if the Court or jury shall believe that said act was committed
against the bona fide instructions of said principal; the minor
or other person obtaining spirituous liquor by such misrepre-
sentation of his age or other facts shall be guilty of a mis-
demeanor, and upon trial and conviction before any justice of
the peace shall be sentenced to pay a tine of not less than five
dollars nor more than ten dollars and the costs of his prosecu-
tion, or upon failure to pay such fine and costs shall be com-
mitted to jail for a period not exceeding ten days.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 24:
of Article 7 of the Code of Public Local Laws, title
"Carroll County," sub-title "County Treasurer and Clerk to
the County Commissioners."
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That section 24 of the Code of Public Local

Clerk to the County Commissioners," be and the same is
hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments so as to read
as follows :
24. The said treasurer and clerk shall be entitled to such

compensation as the County Commissioners may think proper,
not exceeding fifteen hundred dollars per annum; he shall
receive and pay over according to the directions of law or the
order of the County Commissioners the proceeds of all taxes
levied in said county, and shall keep full accounts of all
monies received and paid by him, and of all matters relating
to the duties of his office, with all vouchers relating thereto ;
he shall attend all meetings of the County Commissioners,
make minutes of and record their proceedings, and perform
such other duties as they shall from time to time require .of
him ; he shall furnish, under seal or otherwise, to individuals,
