registration, before entering upon their duties, shall take an
oath before some justice of the peace of Allegany county, to
permit every qualified person and none other to register; and
either of said registration officers shall have power to do all
things under this paragraph, in case one of them dies or
refuses to act, and upon the completion of the registration of
voters the said officers of registration shall deliver to the judges
of election the list of qualified voters so registered, and the
officers of registration shall receive such compensation as the
Mayor and Council of said town shall determine ; provided,
that at the registration preceding the election on the fourth
Monday in April, nineteen hundred and two, William F.
Broderick and M. J. Creegan shall be officers of registration
to carry out the purposes of this Act.
MAYOR.

Mayor.
|
No person shall be eligible to the office of Mayor unless he
is of voting age and shall have resided in the town of Midland
three years next preceding his election. The Mayor elected
at any regular election shall hold office for one year from the
first Monday in May next after his election and until his
successor is elected and qualified ; should a vacancy occur
in the office of Mayor more than six months before the
expiration of the term by reason of removal from the town,
death, resignation or removal from office, or otherwise, the
Council shall, without delay, order an election to fill such
vacancy ; but should the Mayor be absent for a shorter time,
or vacate the office for a less period, then and in such case the
clerk shall act as Mayor in the time thus vacated, and
no election shall be held ; by and with the consent of the
Council the Mayor shall appoint and employ all agents,
servants and employes not otherwise provided for by law who
may be required by said corporation. He shall have power to
remove any officer so appointed by him for cause. He shall
have general supervision of the town, preside at all sessions of
the Council and have a casting vote, see that the ordinances
are enforced, and from time to time report to the Council such
matters as in his judgment require the attention of the Council.
He shall have power to administer oaths and to certify the
same in all matters pertaining to said corporation ; and for
purpose of hearing and determining all cases to which the

corporation may be a party he is hereby clothed with all the
powers of a justice of the peace except as to civil cases, and
may pass sentence and impose tines for all violations of the
ordinances of the said corporation, or may imprison offen-
ders, or may both fine and imprison offenders against said
ordinances ; provided, that no ordinance shall be passed
