CHAPTER 257.
AN ACT to repeal Chapter 111 of the Acts of the General
Assembly of Maryland of 1900, and to add additional
Sections to Article 81 of tho Code of Public General Laws,
title "Revenue and Taxes," under the sub-title "State
Auditor," and to be designated as Sections two hundred and
seventeen, two hundred and eighteen, two hundred and
nineteen and two hundred and twenty.

CHAP. 267.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That chapter 111 of the Acts of the General
Assembly of Maryland of 1900, be and the same is hereby
repealed, and that additional sections be added to Article 81
of the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland, title
"Revenue and Taxes," under the sub-title "State Auditor," to
be designated as sections two hundred and seventeen, two
hundred and eighteen, two hundred and nineteen and two
hundred and twenty.

217. There shall be in the Treasury Department a State
Auditor, to be appointed by the Qovernor, Comptroller and
Treasurer, or a majority of them, who shall take the oath
prescribed by the Constitution, and shall hold his office for
two years from the date of his qualification, and until the
appointment and qualification of his successor, and shall
receive a salary of eighteen hundred dollars per annum, pay-
able quarterly, and such expenses (not exceeding tive hundred
dollars in any one year), as may be audited by the Comptroller,
who shall issue his warrants for the quarterly payments of the
salary, and for such an amount of expenses as said Comptroller

218. The State Auditor shall, on or before the first day of

State officers not herein enumerated, as the Board of Public
Works may direct. He shall personally visit all of the afore-
said offices at least once a year, and oftener, if in his judgment
it is necessary so to do. The State Auditor shall, on or before
