Section 159. The County Commissioners, if, in their dis-
cretion, they may deem it expedient, may appoint a person of
skill and experience as superintendent of the roads of the
county, with such duties as the said County Commissioners
may prescribe. The said superintendent of public roads shall
give bond in such penalty and with such security as they may
fix and approve, and with such conditions as they may pre-
scribe in regard to the duties to be by him performed. He
shall hold office for the term of one year from the time of
his appointment and qualification, and receive therefor a
salary not to exceed three hundred dollars per annum.
SEC, 2. And be it enacted, That all laws and parts of laws

CHAPTER 228.
AN ACT to repeal Chapter 23'5 of the Acts of 1894, and
re-enact the same with amendments.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That chapter 235 of the Acts of 1894 be repealed
and re-enacted, so as to read as follows :

any person or persons or body corporate to sell spirituous or
fermented liquors or lager beer nearer than one-half of a mile,'
in all directions, from. Walbrook public school, formerly known

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 229.
AN ACT to repeal Section two of Article 54 of the Code of
Public General Laws of Maryland, title "Land Office," pro-
viding for the appointment and compensation of clerks, as
repealed and re-enacted by Chapter 318 of the Acts of the
General Assembly of Maryland, at January Session of 1900,
and to re-enact the same with amendments.
