fifty cents ($697.50). To the William Fait Company of
Baltimore City the sum of six hundred and ninety-four
dollars and twenty-three cents (Ji694.23). To the Fait &
Slagle Company of Baltimore City the sum of two hundred
and forty-nine dollars and ninety-eight cents ($24.9.98). To
the John Boyle Company the sum of one hundred and twelve
dollars and thirty-one cents ($112.31). To the firm of H. J.
McGrath & Company the sum of tive dollars and seventy-three
cents ($5.73). To the firm of William H. Killiam the sum
of three dollars ($3).
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the Comptroller of the
Treasury be and he is hereby authorized and directed to draw

his warrant on the Treasurer of this State for the payment of
the said sums of money herein appropriated, being the
amounts erroneously paid into the treasury on account of the
taxes illegally collected as aforesaid, and that the Treasurer of
the State shall, on the warrant of the Comptroller of the
Treasury, pay the said sums of money herein appropriated, to
or upon the order of the person or persons, firms or corpora-
tions entitled to receive the same.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 118.
AN ACT to empower the County Commissioners of Balti-
more County to appoint a jail warden, and to provide for
the support and custody of persons committed to the jail of
said county.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the County Commissioners of Baltimore
county shall, on or before the first Wednesday in December,

in the year nineteen hundred and three, and on or before such
date every two years thereafter, appoint a fit person as warden
of the jail of Baltimore county, who shall take charge of the
prison and prisoners therein and have and exercise, during his
continuance in office, the same powers, and be subject to the
same penalties and forfeitures and be responsible for escapes
in the same manner and to the same extent as the present
sheriff of said county and the sheriff of the several counties
now are, and shall perform such other duties as shall be
required of him by said County Commissioners.
