LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAPTER 464.

AN ACT to add certain new sections to Article 2 of the Code
of Public Local Laws, title "Anne Arundel County," sub-title
"Roads," providing for the construction, improvement and
repairs of the public roads of Anne Arundel county, on the
contract system.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-

missioners

land, That the County Commissioners of Anne Arundel county
within thirty days after the passage of this act shall appoint
one person in each of the election districts of Anne Arundel
county, except in the city of Annapolis, to be known as the
Road Commissioners in the several districts of said county, and
these Road Commissioners so appointed shall constitute a board
to be known and styled as the " Board of Road Commissioners
of Anne Arundel County; " the said Road Commissioners shall
be selected with special reference to their fitness to manage the
matter of the construction, improvement, repair and mainte-
nance of the public roads each in his respective district, and
three of said Road Commissioners shall be selected from each
of the two political parties in said county which shall have cast
the largest number of votes in said county at the last preceding
general election.

Term, pay
and oath.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the appointment of said Road
Commissioners shall be for the period of three years from the
date of their appointment, and shall be communicated in writ-
ing by the clerk of the Board of County Commissioners to the
person appointed who shall receive the annual compensation of
one hundred dollars for the performance of his duties, and who,
before he enters upon the discharge of his duties, shall take an
oath before the clerk of the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel
county well and faithfully to discharge the duties of his office
according to the best of his skill and judgment, which oath
shall be recorded by the clerk of the County Commissioners in
the records of his office.

Meetings.


SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said Road Commission-
ers shall hold at least one meeting in each month, and shall be
entitled to hold their meetings in the County Commissioners'
room; and it is hereby made the duty of the clerk of the County
Commissioners to furnish to said Road Commissioners such
stationery and postage stamps as they may need in the discharge
of their duties at the expense of the county; and the messen-
ger of the County Commissioners shall act as messenger to the
