IAWS OF MARYLAND.

SEC. 22. And be it further enacted, That the chief bailiff
shall, within ten days after the receipt of such list and warrant
render to each person named therein an account or tax bill,

showing the amount due from him, if he be a resident of the
town, and if he be a non-resident, and in consequence cannot
conveniently be served with said account or tax bill, he shall
mail a copy thereof to the last known post office address of
said non-resident; and if any taxes shall not be be paid within
ninety days after the rendition of the account, the chief bailiff
shall return to the council a complete list of all taxpayers who
are delinquents, with a description of the property and the

ceed to advertise the property named in said list for sale, and
shall sell the same at public auction for the amount of taxes,
interest and cost due, on each piece of property after publica-
tion and notice of the time and place of sale for at least three
weeks in some newspaper, published in Garrett county.

Deed to pur-
chaser.

SEC. 23. And be it further enacted, That the Mayor shall
execute and deliver to the purchaser a deed of the property
sold, and the said deed shall convey to the purchaser of said
property, and shall be presumptive evidence that all the re-
quirements of law have been complied with in making assess-
ments, levy, sale and deed, and unless the delinquent owner or
owners of said property, or his or their grantee, mortgagee,
assignee or legal representative shall, within two years from the
date of said tax sale, redeem such property by paying to the
purchaser, or his legal representatives, the whole amount of
money paid by him for said property, with interest thereon at
the rate of fifteen per centum per annum, said title shall
become absolute and indefensible.

SEC. 24. And be it further enacted, That the chief bailiff
shall make all collections required of him, and pay the same to
the clerk within six months from the time the same is placed
in his hands, and said clerk shall immediately make a record
thereof and pay said moneys over to the treasurer.

To attend
meetings.

SEC. 25. And be it further enacted, That the chief bailiff
shall attend all meetings of the council, and perform such
duties as they shall direct; he shall preserve the peace and
good order of the town, and for this purpose he is invested
with the same jurisdiction, power and authority as any consta-
ble of Garrett county has under the laws of this State.

Badge of
bailiffs.

SEC. 26. And be it further enacted, That the council shall
provide suitable badges, which shall be worn in plain view by
the chief bailiff and under-bailiffs at all times, when in the
