beds with sufficient covering therefor, and at least five chambers
more than are or may be sufficient for the private or family pur-
poses of said hotel keeper, with stabling to be at all times suffi-
cient for five horses at least, all said beds and chambers to be
and remain on the said premises on which intoxicating liquor
is by this sub-title of this article licensed to be sold; and each ap-
plicant shall also file in the office of said clerk, his bond, duly
executed to the State, with at least two sureties or satisfactory
security to' the clerk to be approved by said clerk in the penal
sum of fifteen hundred dollars, conditioned for the faithful
observance of the provisions of this sub-title of this article, and
the payment of any and all fines, penalties and damages which
may be imposed or recovered under this sub-title of this article,
which said bond shall be responsible to all such persons herein-
after described as may be injured by the sale of intoxicating
liquors sold by any person licensed under this sub-title of this
article; provided, however, that if there shall not be twelve

free holders, resident in the school district in which the house
may be situated where intoxicating liquors are expected to be
sold, or if said house be not situated within the limits of any
school district, in such case it shall be sufficient that the certifi-
cate required by this section, shall be signed by twelve free
holders, resident in the election district in which such hotel
may be situated.

Cost of
license.

136. Before any person can obtain a license under this sub-
title of this Article, he shall be required to pay to the said
clerk for the license to be issued, as hereinafter directed, for
each place of sale of intoxicating liquor, the sum of money
which is now or which may hereafter be required by the gen-
eral law of the State, to be paid into the treasury of the State,
and shall in addition thereto pay the said clerk for a license to
sell by the drink or in quantities not to exceed five gallons, the
sum of $250 for one year or for a fractional part of a year,
pro rata; and whenever these provisions are fully complied
with it shall be the duty of the said clerk to issue to the appli-
cant a license accordingly; and all licenses issued under this
sub-title of this article shall be transferable as traders' licenses
now are under the general laws of the State, and shall expire
on the first day of May next thereafter; said license fees shall
be paid by said clerk to the Board of County School Commis-
sioners of Worcester county, to be by said board applied to and
used as a part of the public general school fund of said county,
and the bond of the said clerk shall be liable for the payment
of said money on suit instituted by said board.
