SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 391.
AN ACT to refund to Annie E. Downes, executrix of Philip
W. Downes, late of Caroline county, the sum of $129.15 for
taxes erroneously collected from the said Philip W. Downes,
and paid into the Treasury of the State.

Preamble.
|
WHEREAS, By an error in the assessment in the property of
Philip W. Downes, late of Caroline county, for the years 1888
to and including the years 1894, he was obliged to pay and did
pay the State and county taxes for said years upon the sum of
ten thousand three hundred and ninety-five dollars' worth of
property in error; and

WHEREAS, The tax collectors for the Third election district
and the county treasurer of said county, respectively, did, dur-
ing the years aforesaid, collect from the said Philip W. Downes
a sum of money equal to seventeen and three-fourth cents on
the one hundred dollars on the aforesaid erroneous assessment
of $10,395, and have paid the same into the Treasury of the
State, which amounts in the aggregate to the sum of $129.15 ;
therefore,

Appropria-
tion.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Comptroller of the Treasury be, and he is hereby
authorized and directed to draw his warrant upon the Treasurer
of this State in favor of Annie E. Downes, executrix of Philip
W. Downes, for the sum of $129.15, being the amount paid
by him into the treasury of the State for the years 1888 to
1894, inclusive, the same having been submitted to and received
the approval of the treasury officials.
