LAWS OF MARYLAND.

thirty-first day of December of the year next succeeding the
levy to complete the collection thereof, and to make his final
settlement with the said County Commissioners and with the
Treasurer of Maryland; ana he shall have until said time to com-
plete his collections and make his final settlement whether his
term of office has expired or not, and all claims for erroneous,
insolvent or uncollectible tax bills for which he shall claim
credit shall be presented before or at the time specified for said
final settlement; and in no case shall the said Commissioners
allow credit therefor after the term specified for final settle-
ment; and at the expiration of the time for final settlement his
bond or bonds shall be liable for the unaccounted balance in
his hands; and it shall be the duty of the County Commission-
ers, and they are hereby required to enter suit upon the county
bond of said Treasurer for all county taxes remaining uncol-
lected.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of

said treasurer to inform himself, by all lawful means, of all
property, stocks or investments in said county, liable to taxa-
tion and not included in the lists furnished him, and against
which he has not a tax bill or tax bills, and he shall value the
same at the full cash value thereof, and collect the taxes there-
for as upon other property in the county and make return
thereof to the County Commissioners.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That all orders for the pay-
ment of money by the County Commissioners, when such .
orders become necessary, shall be directed to the Treasurer of
Howard county, and shall be honored and paid by him so far
as the funds in his hands for the purpose therefor drawn will
permit.

SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That at the general election for
delegate to the General Assembly of Maryland, in the year
eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, and every second year
thereafter, there shall be elected a County Treasurer for
Howard county by the legal qualified voters of said county,
who shall hold office for two years, and until his successor is
elected and qualified as hereinbefore provided, and be subject
at all times to removal by the Governor for wilful neglect of
duty or misdemeanor in office, upon conviction in a court of law ;
and the said treasurer so selected shall in all respects be clothed
with the powers herein given, and be governed by all the pro-
visions of this act.
