Ellicott City, elected as aforesaid, shall, within ten days after
the publication of the copy of said proclamation take and sub-
scribe to the oath of office before the clerk of the Circuit Court
for Howard county.

56 D. Each judge of election and each clerk of election shall
receive one dollar for his services; the officer of registration
shall receive fifteen dollars for his entire services; the clerk of
the Circuit Court of Howard county shall receive one dollar
for issuing said proclamation, and each supervisor shall receive
five dollars for his services, which expenses and all the other
expenses attending any such election shall be paid by the cor-
poration of Ellicott City.

56 E. If at any election there shall be a tie between any per-
sons voted for, and in case of there being a vacancy or vacan-
cies in any of said municipal offices, a special election shall be
held within six weeks after such election where there shall be
a tie vote, or when such vacancy or vacancies occur, and such
special election shall be at such time as may be designated by
the supervisors and conducted in such manner as is herein pro-
vided for elections heretofore mentioned in this article.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 317.
AN ACT to create a Treasurer for Howard County, and to
provide for the collection of taxes therein.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the County Commissioners of Howard county shall
appoint a competent person, resident of Howard county, treas-
urer for said county, who shall give bond and qualify as here-
inafter directed, and who shall hold his office until his succes-
sor is elected and qualified, as hereinafter provided, and who
shall be subject at all times to be removed by the Governor,
for wilful neglect of duty or misdemeanor in office, upon con-
viction in a court of law; the said treasurer shall be collector
of all State and county taxes for whatsoever purpose or pur-
poses levied or to be levied for or within said county during
