CHAPTER 316.
AN ACT to repeal Sections 51, 52, 53, 54, 55 and 5 f. of
Article 14 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland,
title "Howard County," sub-title "Ellicott City," and to
enact in lieu thereof the following sections, to become Sec-
tions 51, 52, 53, 64, 55 and 56, and the additional sections,
56 A 56B, 56 C, 56 D and 56 E of said Article, under said sub-
title of "Ellicott City."
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mar y-

Repeal.

Iand, That sections 51, 52, 53, 54, 55 and 56 of Article 14 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Howard
County," sub-title "Ellicott City," be and the same are hereby
repealed, and the following be and they are hereby enacted in

lien thereof, to be sections 51, 52, 53, 54, 55 and 56, and the
additional sections, 56A, 56 B, 56 C, 56 D and 56 E of said Arti-
cle 14 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title
"Howard County," sub-title "Ellicott City."
51. The Governor shall, before the first day of January

previous to each election for Mayor, members of the City
Council of Ellicott city, appoint one person, a resident voter of
said city, officer of registration of Ellicott city, who shall hold
his office for two years from the date of his appointment; said
officer of registration shall register in a book prepared for that
purpose, similar in all respects to the books of registration of
voters for members of the House of Delegates, all the male
residents of said city qualified to vote for delegates to the
General Assembly of Maryland, and who have resided for six
months within the corporate limits of said city six months pre-
vious to any municipal election, as hereinafter provided.

52. Said officer of registration, after giving two weeks' notice
by advertisement inserted in at least one newspaper published
in Ellicott city, and by hand-bills, at some convenient place in
said city, to be designated in said advertisement, 8 o'clock in
the morning on the first Monday of February, 1897, and at
the same hour on the first Tuesday and the first Wednesday
after said first Monday of February, 1897, and at the same
hour on the same days every second day thereafter, shall pro-
ceed to open said book, and the same keep open until six
o'clock in the evening of each of said days, for the purpose of
registering all the qualified voters of said city who shall be
entitled under the provisions of this sub-title of this article to
be registered, and he shall register them all who shall apply
