SEC. 9. And be it further enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 279.

AN ACT to incorporate Peninsula Mutual Fire Insurance
Company.

Effective.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That James Wallace, of Dorchester county, Leonard S.
Fleckenstein, of Talbot county, Thomas L. Day, of Caroline
county, John Lamotte, of Kent county, Cassius M. Dashiell, of
Somerset county, State of Maryland, and Henry P. Cannon, of
Sussex county, Delaware, and James V. McCommons, of Kent
county, Delaware, and their successors, and all, persons, firms
or corporations, who may hereafter become members of the
corporation to be created by this act, are hereby created and
declared to be a body politic and corporate, by the name, style
and title of "Peninsula Mutual Fire Insurance Company,"
and by the same name shall have succession, and shall be able
to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, answer and defend,
and be answered and defended in all courts of law and equity
in the State or elsewhere; to have its principal office at some
place within this State, which, in the judgment of the direc-
tors hereinafter named, shall be most advantageous to said
company; to have, make and use a common seal, and the same
to break, alter and renew, at their pleasure; and shall have
full power and authority to make insurances on any kind of
property against loss or damage by tire or lightning; to pro-
vide for the keeping and investment of funds or assets that
may become the property of the company, and generally to
transact, execute and perform all such business as may apper-
tain to a fire insurance company, not contrary to this act or
the Constitution and laws of this State or of the United
States.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That it shall be the
duty of the secretary of said company to keep a book contain-
ing a copy of this act and of such by-laws of the said com-
pany as may be established, and that all persons, firms or
corporations who wish to become members of the said com-
pany may be required to express, in writing, at the foot
