said election.

SEC. 13. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

Approved April 2d, 1896.

CHAPTER 212.

AN ACT to extend and grant additional powers and franchises
to the Workingmen's Permanent Building and Loan Asso-
ciation of Talbot County, so as to enable it to insure the
fidelity of persons holding places of trust or responsibility of
any State, corporation, company, person or persons whatso-
ever.

Effective.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That in addition to the powers and franchises already
possessed by the Workingmen's Permanent Building and Loan
Association of Talbot County, a body corporate, duly incorpo-
rated under the General Laws of the State of Maryland, the
said Workingmen's Permanent Building and Loan Association
of Talbot County shall be, and is hereby authorized and em-
powered to insure the fidelity of persons holding places of trust
or responsibility of any State, corporation, company, person or
persons whatsoever, to indorse for and to enter security and
become security for the faithful performance of any trust, office,
duty, contract or agreement, and to supersede any judgment or
to go upon any bond, to appeal from any order, judgment or
decree of any court of record; and it is further authorized to
become sole surety in all cases when by law two or more sure-
ties are required for the faithful performance of any trust or
office; and it shall and may be lawful for any court to approve
said company as sole surety in all such cases, and in every such
case the capital stock of the said company shall be taken and
considered as sufficient security therefor; bat in such cases the
officers and affairs of said company shall be subject to an ex-
amination and its property and effects liable as aforesaid; and
it shall be lawful for said company to stipulate and provide for
indemnity from the parties aforesaid for whom it shall so become
responsible, and to enforce any bond, contract, agreement,
pledge or security made or given for that purpose.
