CHAPTER 171.

AN ACT to add to Article twenty-two of the Code of Public
Local Laws, title "Washington County," sub-title "Hagers-
town," certain sections, to follow 182 C of said Article, and
to be named Sections 182 D, 182 E, 182 F, 182 G, 182 H.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-

land, That the following sections, to follow section 182 C of
Article twen ty- two of the Code of Public -Local Laws, title
"Washington County," sub-title "Hagerstown," be added to
said Article twenty-two of the Code of Public Local Laws,
and to be named sections 182 D, 182 E, 182 F, 182 G, 182 H.

New Section

I

182D. Whenever the Mayor and Council shall proceed to
exercise the powers vested in them by sections 182 A and 182 B
of Article twenty-two of the Code of Public Local Laws, title
"Washington County," sub-title "Hagerstown," and shall pro-
tide by general or special ordinance for paving any street, lane
or alley, or part thereof, that portion of the cost of paving
, said street, lane or alley, or part thereof, which shall devolve
upon the Mayor and Council of Hagerstown, shall be provided
for in manner following, that is to say: After the entire cost
of paving said street, lane or alley, or part thereof, has been
fully determined, and the portion of the cost thereof which
the Mayor and Council shall be obligated to pay, been fully
and definitely ascertained and determined, and before work is
begun, the Mayor and Council are authorized and empowered
to borrow a sum of money, not exceeding the amount which is
the Mayor and Council's due and proper portion of said cost,
as previously ascertained, for paving said street, lane or alley,
or portion thereof, on the faith and credit of the town, as
hereinafter provided, which shall be known and designated as
"Street Paving Bonds," "Series one," and subsequent issues
shall be known and designated in the same manner, numbered
upwards, consecutively, from series one, and be subject to all
the conditions, regulations and provisions of this act, as series
one, and the money arising from the sale of each series shall
be applied aad used exclusively for defraying the Mayor and
Council's portion of the cost of paving that particular street,
lane or alley, or portion thereof, which made the issuing of
said series necessary, and for no other purpose whatever.

182 E. To provide for borrowing the money as authorized
by the preceding section, the Mayor and Council are empow-
ered to issue bonds to be signed by the Mayor and attested by
