levy the State taxes for the year 1897, and annually thereafter,
to be collected according to law, to the amount of "fifteen-six-
teenths of one cent" on each one hundred dollars, in addition
to the amount now collected, to meet the interest, and to create
a sinking fund for the redemption of the "Penitentiary Loan."

Effective.

SEC. 9. Be it further enacted. That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

Approved April 2d, 1896.

CHAPTER 167.

AN ACT to declare the sanction of the General Assembly of
Maryland to the holding and disposal of by the " Trustees of
the Centennial Methodist Episcopal Church of Baltimore
City," of certain property heretofore purchased and used as a
burial ground.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, The " Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church
in Dallas street station," a religious corporation under the laws
of the State of Maryland, which has since changed its corpo-
rate name to the " Trustees of the Centennial Methodist Epis-
copal Church of Baltimore City," heretofore acquired under a
deed from Philip Cooper, dated the 16th day of July A. D.
1867, and recorded among the land records of Baltimore city,
in Liber A. M., No. 352, folio 421, etc., certain property situ-
ated in the city of Baltimore, which said body corporate has
held and used for many years for burial purposes, the longer
use of which for burial purposes has become impracticable by
the opening of streets and the advancement of buildings and
improvements in the locality, and upon sanitary grounds, and
all the bodies which were interred therein having been removed
and proceedings for the sale thereof having been instituted in
the Circuit Court of Baltimore city, and a decree for sale thereof
passed by said court, but the right of said body corporate to
hold and dispose thereof without the leave and sanction of the
General Assembly having been questioned; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the leave and sanction of the General Assembly of
Maryland is hereby given to the holding and disposal of by the
" Trustees of the Centennial Methodist Episcopal Church of
Baltimore City," formerly the trustees of the Methodist Epis-
