ment of said principal at maturity and shall levy the necessary
taxes therefor, not exceeding the rate allowed by law, which
sinking fund shall be invested, annually, in some safe securi-
ties, to be selected by the Mayor and Council.

May pass
ordinances.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the Mayor and Council of
Brunswick shall have power to pass all ordinances necessary
for the preservation and protection of said water works, and
to regulate by ordinance the charges for pipes, hydrants and
other water supplies furnished to citizens of said town and to
other persons conducting or carrying on business therein.

Question to be
voted on.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the power to issue bonds
herein granted is conditional, and it is hereby provided, that
the question of issuing said bonds shall be submitted to the
qualified voters of said town at an election to be held therein
during the month of May, in the year 1896, for which election
the Mayor and Council shall provide by ordinance. If a
majority of the votes cast at such election favor the execution
of said power, the Mayor and Council may proceed to issue
said bonds; but if a majority of the votes cast be against the
execution of said power, then it shall be null and void,
and this law of no further effect.

Effective.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 111.

AN ACT to pay to George B. Oswald, Clerk Circuit Court
for Washington County, a certain sum of money for fees in

State cases.

WHEREAS, There is due to George B. Oswald, clerk of the

Preamble.

Circuit Court for Washington county, the sum of sixteen
dollars and sixty-five cents, being fees for making record to
Court of Appeals in case of George S. Brown and others
versus The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company, in the Cir-
cuit Court for Washington county, numbers forty-one hun-
dred and ninety-one and forty-one hundred and ninety-eight,
equity, said costs being contracted by the Attorney-General ;
therefore
