court; which oath or affirmation shall he certifird by said jus-
tice of the peace, before whom such oath or affirmation shall be
takrn, which certificate shall accompany such return as the
surveyor shall make to the court, from which such appoint-
ment emanated.

An act to promote education in Frederick.

SECTION 1 . Be it enacted bij the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the corporate authorities of Frederick be, and they
are hereby authorised and empowered in their discretion, to
levy annually upon the assessable property of said town, such
sum of money, as they may deem sufficient to carry into effect,
the objects of this ill, as hereinafter specified; provided, that
Do levy under this act shall exceed, in any one year, the sum
of three cents on every hundred dollars worth of the real and
personal property in said town, according to the assessment of
said property heretofore made by order of the corporation of
Frederick; said tax to be collected and paid to the Register of
Frederick, as other monies are now collected and paid.

SEC. 2 And be it enacted That the Rev'd. David T S.
Schaffer, Rev'd, John Milroy, Rev'd. John Johns, Rev'd.
Jonathan Helfenstein, RevM. David Martin, Richard Potts,
Abraham Shriver, George Baltzell, Lewis Medtart, George
W. Ent, William M. Beall, Thomas Carlton, John Kunkle,
George M. Eichelberger, Nicholas Turbutt, Henry Schley,
John McPherson, jun'r Caspar Mantz, Frederick Noiaz,
Stephen Steiner, Doct. Jacob Baer and Doct, John Baltzell,
together with all regular ministers of the gospel residing in
Frederick; he, and they are hereby constituted and appointed
Superintendants of free schools for Frederick, with the powers
and duties hereinafter mentioned.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said superintendants of
free schools shall assembly on or before the first Monday of
April next, and on the same day annually thereafter, and eltct
from their own body one president, and such other officers as
they max think necessary; they shall proceed on or before the
second Monday of April next, to lay of Frederick into as

Notice-Teachers
|
notice in the several newspapers of Frderick, that they will
proceed on a certain das to be therein mentioned, to appoint
ont? teacher to each school district, the salary to. be allowed
each teacher, shall also be stated in said notice.
