LAWS OF MARYLAND,

CHAP. 12,

ricktown and the Monocacy, and of said bridge, should the
same be constructcd, to report upon oath to the clerk of Fre-
derick county court, the costs of sail road and bridge respec-
tively; and upon said return, it shall be the duty of said clerk,
under the direction of the judges of the levy court for Frede-
rick county, to fix the tolls to be collected upon said bridge,
having reference to the proportion of tolls the road from
Frederick to Monococy would he entitled to, and the cost of
making it and allow proportionate tolls on the bridge for pro-
portionate expenditures in constructing it.

SEC 10. And be it enacted, That the said banks shall res-
pectively pay to the treasurer of the Western Shore, the sum
of twenty cents upon the amount of eyrry hundred dollars,
subscribed and actually paid in, for each and every year after
the year eighteen hundred and thirty-five, during the continu-
and of the charters of said banks, under this law, which sum
shall be, and hereby is pledged by the state as a fund for the
purpose of supporting free schools, to be equally divided
among the several counties of this state, and paid over in
equal portions to such persons in each county, as the Legisla-
ture may herrafter appoint.

SEC. 11. And be it enacted, That the government of the
United States be, and it is hereby authorised and empowered,
to subscribe for any number of shares in either of the said
turnpike companies, upon the same terms as other subscribers
are authorised to take and subscribe for shares in said cum-
panies.

1828.

An additional supplement to an act, entitled, an act for the
distribution of acertain fund, for the purpose of establishing
free schools in the several counties therein mentioned.

Preamble

WHEREAS, a fund has been pledged for the establishment
of free schools throughout this state by an act passed at De-
cember session, eighteen hundred and sixteen, chapter two
hundred and fifty -six, entitled an act for the distribution of a
certain fund, for the purpose of establishing tree schools in
the several counties therein mentioned: And whereas, by the
said act, and its stvtial supplements, the said fund is direct-
ed to be divided equally among the several counties in this
state' Therefore,

SECTION I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, that the treasurer of the Western Shore be, and he is
hereby authorised and required to pay to the order of the
commissioners of primary schools, for Queen Anne's county,
the interest which may from time to time accrue on so much
of the aforesaid fund, or any other fund, which has been, or
may be invested for the use and benefit of the said county; and
the said treasurer is hereby further authorised and directed to
pay as aforesaid, to the commissioners aforesaid, the annuity
