RESOLUTIONS.

1827.

state has not obtained, by a considerable sum, the amount of
her just and fail claim — and as proper and necessary for the
recovery of this claim, the committee propose to transmit to

 

the Congress of the United States, a respectable memorial,
containing a brief representation of the matter, and claiming,
as of right, a further act to authorise the liquidation, accord-
ing to common justice and the equity of the matter. The
committee submit the following preamble and resolutions:

Memorial proposed

WHEREAS, hy a resolution of the General Assembly of
Maryland, passed at December session, eighteen hundred and
twenty five, the senators of this state in the Congress of the
United States, were requested to bring before the general go-
vernment the claim tor interest on loans, contracted by this
state for the prosecution of the late war; and their represen-
tatives were also requested to assist in prosecuting the said
claim to a successful termination; and whereas an act was
passed by the Congress of the United States to authorise the
payment of the said interest; and whereas the provisions of
the said act have not been deemed sufficient to warrant an ad-
justment upon the principles of established usage and com-
mon justice — Therefore,

Preamble

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
senators and representatives of this state in the Congress of
the United States, be, and they are hereby requested to exer-
cise their best exertions to obtain an act to authorise a settle-
ment of the state's claim for interest on monies expended for
the United States in the prosecution of the late war with Great
Britain, according to the equity of the matter.

Resolution.

Further resolved. That his Excellency the Governor, be re-
quested to transmit the foregoing report, preamble, and reso-
lution, to each of the senators and representatives of this state
in the Gongfess of the United States,

A resolution in favor o/ George Hill, of Anne Arundel county.

Passed March 5,
1828

Resolved, That the treasurer of the Western Shore be, and
be is hereby authorised to pay to George Hill, of Anne Arun-
del county, lawful heir and representative of John Hill, a re-
volutionary soldier, (who died on the fifth day of February
last,) whatever sum was, or may have been due to the said
John Hill at the time of his decease, from the state of Mary-
land, on account of his revolutionary services.
