REPAIR AND BINDING

For the most part, record books which have been rebound within
the last twenty or thirty years have been covered with white canvas.
While this provides an excellent defense against the buffeting that
these heavy volumes receive in the course of normal usage, it also
serves to obscure their identity. For example, if the volume comes from
a county, as most of them do, it was not felt necessary by the original

of trouble. For several years, the binder has been asked to devote spare
moments to this task. This year she devoted a considerable amount of
time to this project which was within 629 volumes of completion.

Lamination went on at its usual pace, but there were only three
volumes of the seventeenth century in the lot. Most of the rest dated
