16 TWENTY-EIGHTH ANNUAL REPORT
PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
Perhaps the most fruitful committee assignment which the Arch-
ivist has had in the Society of American Archivists was the chairman-
ship of the Advisory Committee on the Study of State Archival Pro-
grams. By the end of the fiscal year, the field work had been completed
by the Director, Dr. Ernst Posner, and the manuscript was within a
few months of completion. It was a rather strenuous task for all con-
cerned but the study will be invaluable to all State Archivists. The
Archivist served also as Chairman of the Nominating Committee in a
year made difficult because of the necessity for implementing changes
in the Society's constitution. In the absence of the chairman the Arch-
ivist delivered the report of the Waldo Gifford Leland Award Com-
mittee at the General Meeting of the Society held at Raleigh. He also
served as a member of the Advisory Board of the AMERICAN ARCH-
IVIST and as a member of the Committee for Professional Standards
and Training.
The Archivist was reelected a Trustee for a five-year term of the
Maryland Historical Trust and he was appointed by Governor Tawes
a member of the Maryland Commission for the New York World's
Fair. He continued his work with the fellowship advisory committee of
Historic Annapolis, Inc. and the Historical Seminar of the Maryland
Historical Society.
Mr. Skordas was elected October 1, 1962 to the Council of the
SA.A. He will serve for four years. He was chairman of the Program
Committee for the 26th annual meeting of the Society held at Roch-
ester, September 30-October 2, 1962, and he also served as a member
of the State and Local Records Committee. Mr. Skordas and Mr.
Beach attended the annual meeting at Rochester. Mr. Beach was re-
appointed a member of the Records Management Committee. Just
prior to this meeting Mr. Beach and Mr. Skordas attended a day-long
session of university Archivists held at Cornell University. Mr. Beach
attended the annual meeting of the Registers of Wills of Maryland
held at Ocean City July 13-14,1962 and a special meeting of the Clerks
of Court Association at the Emerson Hotel in Baltimore, May 28, 1963,
at which indexing for the Uniform Commercial Code was discussed.
Mr. White continued to serve on the State Coordinating Curri-
culum Committee of the State Department of Education. One meeting
was held, December 19, 1962, in Baltimore.
