The Archivist attended the dedication of a beautiful monument
to the Georgia troops who had fallen at Gettysburg. He was the guest
of Governor Vandiver and of the Archivist of Georgia, Mary Givens
Bryan. This ceremony was held September 21, 1961. On the same day
several hours were spent at the home of the York County Historical
Society. Dr. Radoff was accompanied by Mrs. Jacobsen. The next month
the Archivist enjoyed the dedication ceremony at the Eleutherian Mills
Historical Library at Hagley, Delaware. In May of 1962 he saw for
the first time much of historic Washington County by taking the
Garden Tour. He was accompanied by Mrs. Clark. Several weeks later
he was present at the Tercentenary celebration at Easton and while there
inspected the handsome newly-restored home of the Historical Society
of Talbot County. There was held the same month a conference on
Historic Preservation in Annapolis at St. John's College.
Mr. Skordas prepared the exhibit and attended the ceremonies
held in the Old Senate Chamber to celebrate the 175th Anniversary of
the Annapolis Convention which met September 11, 1786. He was
accompanied by the Archivist. Mr. Skordas led our delegation to the
dedication of a Georgia monument at Antietam September 20, 1961.
He was accompanied by Mr. Beach and Mrs. Clark.
The Area Emergency Planning Conference held in Cleveland
February 23, 1962 was monitored for us by Mr. Skordas. In the course
of a transcontinental vacation trip the Assistant Archivist visited the
office of the San Diego County Recorder to examine the fine new indexes
which have been developed there. He also visited the tremendous genea-
logical operation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in
Salt Lake City and two days later, June 25, 1962, he spent many hours
at the pace-setting Division of State Archives and Public Records
in Denver.
Mr. Beach and the Archivist attended the Governor's Conference
on Civil Defense held at Annapolis September 28, 1961, and Mr. Beach
accompanied by Mr. Skordas and Mr. Straubinger were interested mem-
bers of a seminar on county and local microfilming arranged by the
Gallant Engineering Co. at Arlington, Virginia. Mr. Weatherly visited
during the Garden Tour period Washington County, Talbot County and
Charles County. He also participated in the Anne Arundel County
house tour in the Autumn.
