ARCHIVIST OF THE HALL OF RECORDS 5

HALL OF RECORDS COMMISSION

The Hall of Records Commission is an ex officio body, created by Chap-
ter 18, Acts of 1935, to collect and preserve the non-current records of Mary-
land and to encourage research and investigation in the history of the State.
Since passage of this Act, additional duties have been assigned the Staff of
the Hall of Records: it is responsible for compiling and editing the Maryland
Marnial; it has been made a depository for all State agency publications; it
administers the State Records Management Program; it is responsible for the
microfilming of all current land records and for providing two copies of the
film, a negative for the Land Office and a positive for use by the State Tax
Commission in the preparation of tax maps; it is also responsible for micro-
filming the proceedings of the General Assembly at the end of each legislative
day. The work of the Hall of Records Commission is performed at the Hall
of Records building in Annapolis. (Flack's Code 1951, Article 41, Sections
121, 148-157; Chapters 436, 437, Acts of 1953.)

The members of the Commission and the offices which they held in
fiscal year 1955 were:

Chief Judge, Court of Appeals of Maryland:

HONORABLE FREDERICK W. BRUNE, Chairman ................ Baltimore

President of St. John's College:

DR. RICHARD D. WEIGLE, Vice-Chairman ........................ Annapolis

Governor of Maryland:

HONORABLE THEODORE R. MCKELDIN ............................ Annapolis

Comptroller of The Treasury:

HONORABLE J. MILLARD TAWES ............................................ Crisfield

President of the Maryland Historical Society:

HONORABLE GEORGE L. RADCLIFFE ................................ Baltimore

President of the Board of Peabody Institute:

WILLIAM L. MARBURY, ESQ.................................................. Baltimore

President of The Johns Hopkins University:

DR. LOWELL J. REED ........................................................ Baltimore

No meeting of the Hall of Records Commission was held during fiscal
year 1956. The meeting of May 17, 1955 was, of course, covered in the Report
for fiscal year 1955, and the meeting of August 9, 1956 will be summarized
in the Annual Report for fiscal year 1957. Letters were written to the mem-
bers of the Commission informing them of various aspects of our work, ap-
pointments were tentatively approved by the Chairman and the Vice-Chair-
man who form the Executive Committee, and the report of the Auditor on the
financial affairs of the Hall of Records was forwarded to each member.

There were no changes in the membership of the Commission.
