EXHIBITS
Two special exhibits were prepared in the course of the year. The first
was set up to illustrate the history of the Carroll-Davis House. This early
eighteenth-century structure, after a long history of possession by Dr. Charles
Carroll, his son, the Tydings and Davis families, came into the hands of
Historic Annapolis, Incorporated. After a fund raising campaign throughout
the State, it was moved on October 3rd and 4th, 1955 to a place east of Igle-
hart Hall on the St. John's College Campus. Our exhibit showed pertinent
documents in the history of Charles Carroll, Barrister's life as delegate to the
Continental Congress and member of the Maryland Senate. Maps of Annapo-
lis of 1743, 1834 and 1878 pinpointing the house were also shown, as well as
the relevant chancery case preliminary to the purchase of the house in 1722.
Numerous photographs and newspaper clippings from our collection were
also on view.
On May 28, when The Baltimore Bibliophiles met at the Hall of Re-
cords, there was exhibited here a loan of early printed books, the property of
a resident of Anne Arundel County, Edward S. Corcoran. These included
the early (1511) so-called Ptolemy Map of the World: the first printed men-
tion, in Whitbourne's Discourse on the Discovery of Newfoundland, of Lord
