ARCHIVIST OF THE HALL OF RECORDS

HALL OF RECORDS COMMISSION

The Hall of Records Commission is an ex officio body, created by Chap-
ter 18, Acts of 1935, to collect and preserve the non-current records of
Maryland and to encourage historical investigation and research in the
history of the State. Since the passage of this Act, the Hall of Records has
been assigned other duties: it is responsible for compiling and editing the
State's year book, the Maryland Manual; it has been made a depository for
all publications of State agencies; it has been charged with the implementation
of the "Records Management Act" of 1953; it microfilms or supervises the
microfilming for deposit in the Land Office of all the deeds, mortgages and
releases of mortgages recorded in the several county courthouses and it pro-
vides at stated intervals positive microfilm copies of all the deed records for
use by the State Tax Commission in the preparation of tax maps. The work
of the Hall of Records Commission is centered at the Hall of Records build-
ing in Annapolis (Flack's Code 1951, Article 41, Sections 121, 148-157;
Chapters 436, 437, Acts of 1953).
