In addition to the disposal of record materials listed in this report,
State agencies also destroyed a large volume of non-record paper. The Retail
Sales Tax Division of the Office of the Comptroller of the Treasury sold
approximately 70 cubic feet of used tabulating cards during the year. While
the amounts destroyed by other agencies were considerably smaller, it is
gratifying to note that many State agencies are periodically disposing of
non-record material once it has been established that the paper in question
falls into the non-record category.

MICROFILMING OF COUNTY RECORDS

The Microfilm Division of the Hall of Records was established to
provide the Commissioner of the Land Office with microfilm copies of
currently-recorded county land records on an annual basis, in accordance
with the provisions of Chapter 504, Acts of 1949. This program went into
effect at the beginning of the fiscal year. One portable microfilm camera
which was already owned by the Hall of Records was used and another was
purchased. An additional reader was procured and a small station wagon
was acquired. The total number of images was 458,845, and the cost per
image was $.038.

Shortly before the beginning of the fiscal year, we were faced with the
problem of providing the State Tax Commission with microfilm copies of
current deeds for its tax map program. After several conferences with
representatives of the State Tax Commission, the Comptroller of the
