AIDS TO RESEARCH
In fiscal year 1951 we prepared and distributed Bulletin No. 9 which
was, in effect, a critical list of the index holdings of the Hall of Records.
With the exception of the indexes of county records which were micro-
filmed in the course of the past year, nothing has been added so that
Bulletin No. 9, plus the indexes found in "Microfilming of County Records,"
is our current list of indexes. As you are aware, most of our card indexes
were designed to make available the fine collection of genealogical materials
in our vaults. This work is all but finished and it will, therefore, be the
unusual year when additional cards are added.
The Sixteenth Annual Report of The Archivist for the fiscal year
1951 appeared in October 1952. It is useful as a finding aid, especially
because of its lists of accessions and its description of new aids to research
added in the course of the year. This Report was reviewed by Robert Claus
in the American Archivist for July 1952.
A second volume of the Calendar of the Red Books, the eighth publi-
cation in our series, was sent" to the printer immediately before the end of
the fiscal year, but since it has not appeared at this writing it will be
considered as part of the work of fiscal year 1953. A second volume men-
tioned in my report of last year, a documentary history of the State-owned
buildings of Annapolis, was not quite finished and is now receiving final
emendations. It will be our Publication No. 9.
During the last few years we have continued to take pictures of
historic sites and buildings. This fiscal year we filed and prepared an index
for this collection which now contains about 450 items.
