LIBRARY
At the end of the fiscal year it became possible to find ma-
terial and labor to convert the small room in the rear of the
Research Room into a library. This move had been contemplated
for several years because the library had outgrown the shelf
space in the Archivist's office and also because the large addi-
tions to our record holdings, especially of county records, made
it necessary to put some sort of compact reference library at
the service of the public. The small room which was chosen for
library purposes is convenient because of its proximity to the
Research Room and because it had never been put to any use or
even completely furnished. The drawings for the bookshelves
were made by Mr. Laurence Hall Fowler of Baltimore, who was
architect for the building.
