PHOTOCOPYING

The amount of work accomplished by the Photostat operator
at the Hall of Records for the last year is larger by far than in any
other year. As the detailed list below will show, a total of 17, 453
pages was completed. This compares with 14, 860 pages for the pre-
ceding year and 10, 685 pages for the year before that. Since most
of our effort was devoted to County Land Records, our long-term
program of replacing the originals in the county seats with photo-
copies made an extraordinary amount of progress.

During the course of the year Frederick County was added to
Somerset and Prince George's among the completed counties. Dur-
ing the previous year we had begun the Charles County series, but
we were able to do only two volumes. We have now progressed
solidly from the first year of the record, 1658, to 1733; and several
later volumes which were in a bad state of repair have also been done.

In the case of Kent County we have completed the Deed series
from 1761 to 1790 which is, of course, as late as we shall go. We be-
gan at 1761 because some years ago several interested citizens com-
pleted typewritten copies of the series from the earliest days of the
County through 1760. It is our hope that these typewritten copies
will be used in lieu of photocopies which the Hall of Records is re-
quired to furnish to the County on demand. The Dorchester County
series has hardly been begun, running only from 1669 to 1701.
