The members of the Commission will notice that there have been
several changes in the staff during the year. Miss Elizabeth W. Meade,
who had been Assistant Archivist since the Hall of Records opened in
October 1935, resigned December 31, 1942 to accept a position at the
National Archives in Washington, Mrs. Sallie W, Stainback resigned
to join her husband who had been ordered to the U. S. Naval Station,
Jacksonville, Florida. Mrs. Imogene Hollywood resigned when her
husband was inducted into the Army. Miss Meade was succeeded by
Mr. Thomas who had joined the Hall of Records' staff during the
preceding year. Mr, Thomas' place was taken by Mrs. Elisabeth
Hartsock Mrs. Stainback was replaced by Mrs. Louise M. Hall.
Miss Shirley M. Johnson succeeded Mrs. Hollywood, Mrs, Agnes
Howard succeeded Miss Johnson when the latter resigned to be married,
Of the original professional staff no one now remains; there are,
however, three members who hare served for as much as five years.
There is good reason to believe that the rapid changes of the last two
years will not be repeated in the future. The demands of wartime
Federal Agencies in Washington have decreased, and the selective
service requirements are modified, no one else on the staff is eligible
for immediate induction into the armed forces.
