ARCHIVIST OF THE HALL OF RECORDS 19

The policy which we began during the last fiscal year of
repairing only those materials which are in constant use and which
are in need of repair was continued during this year with good
results. With the exception of the Provincial Court Judgments,
which are now being indexed and repaired, there are no records
frequently used which are badly in need of repair. There is no
record, moreover, in such bad condition that it cannot be given to
the public. It is hoped that in the near future we shall be able
to get beyond the point of repairing where there has already been
damage; it is better and cheaper to preserve than to repair.

The following are the more important materials which have
been silked during the year:

Accounts 1, 49, 67

Anne Arundel County Deeds, Liber P. K.

Army Journal, No. 1

Balance Book, No. 1

Baltimore County Deeds, W. G. No. F

Court of Appeals, Test Book

Draft of Maryland Constitution of 1777

Depreciation Pay, No. 1

Frederick County Marriage Records 1778-1798

Intendant's Orders, No. 1

Testamentary Proceedings 19, 38, 39, 45

Wills 28.

The following have been laminated:

Charles County Wills, Liber J
Maryland State Papers, Portfolio B
Provincial Court Judgments T. G.

Some loose papers were also repaired and many volumes were
repaired in part only. In addition to binding, which will be
reported elsewhere, the repair department did many other odd jobs
for the Hall of Records; a large number of plats which had come
from the Anne Arundel Courthouse in wretched condition were
cleaned and pressed out and will be made available to the public
this year, smocks, cloths, and paste for use at the Hall were made
by the department, pictures were repaired, etc.

Photostatic copies of all the signatures of Maryland Governors
from the Revolution to the present were made by the photodupli-
cation department and arranged and mounted by the Repair Depart-
