PHOTODUPLICATION

When the Hall of Records opened, it had no photographic equip-
ment of its own, and what was more serious it had no room for such
equipment, since the room provided for this purpose had already
been filled by the equipment belonging to the Land Office which had
been installed the previous June. Use of this equipment was grac-
iously granted to the Hall of Records by the Commissioner of the
Land Office but the business of that office, quite large at that time,
naturally took precedence. Another discouraging feature of the sit-
uation was that the large photostatic camera in use was of quite
ancient vintage and altogether unsuitable for the rapid reproduc-
tion of record volumes. None of this equipment was replaced until
after the period which is the subject of this report.
