FINANCIAL STATEMENT

Fiscal Year 1934-1935.

During the period from the completion of the Hall of Records
to the beginning of the new fiscal year on October 1, 1935 the ex-
penditures of the Hall of Records were paid out of the Budget of
the Board of Public Works. These expenditures consisted almost
entirely of utilities and the salary of the maintenance staff. The of-
fice of the Land Commissioner did not share in the maintenance
costs and has never been asked to pay any part of them since that
time.

Fiscal Year 1935-1936.

For the fiscal year 1936 the Legislature had appropriated for
the use of the Hall of Records the sum of $20,000 which had sud-
sequently been reduced to $15,000. In the course of the year this
cut was restored and other funds were provided:

Appropriation for fiscal year 1936 available

October 1, 1935............................... $15,000

Cut of appropriation restored December 4, 1935........ 5,000

Allotted by Board of Public Works for salaries of
maintenance staff to be paid from budget of
Hall of Records............................... 8,132

Allotted by Board of Public Works for additional

equipment..................................... 5,300

Total Funds available......................$28,432

The financial arrangement for the first year was a little more
complicated than appears. The restoration of the cut of $5,000 was
made only on condition that all salaries be paid out of the $15,000.
