MARYLAND IMPRINTS ADDENDA

1809

[To the People of Maryland of all political and reli-
gious denominations. Annapolis? 1809]

broadside.

Referred to in a piece in the Annapolis Maryland Ga-
zette, Aug. 16, 1809, signed: A Layman, and headed:
Church Petition. "A handbill has been lately issued and
distributed by some unfriendly soul, who ... has issued
forth a tissue of unjust and indelicate reflections on
both petitioners and grantors. The address is to the
People of Maryland of all political and religious denom-
inations ... It concludes ... "that they who tolerate
intolerants render themselves guilty of their crimes"."
The handbill insinuated that the purpose of the so-
called Church Bill was to create an established church.

The second instalment, printed the following week and
headed: On the Church Bill and Quakers' Petition, refers
to the "Episcopal Church Bill." See item 755.
