Pechin and Wilmer published their proposals for
printing a new paper, to be entitled the Eagle of Free*
dom in April of 1796. It was to be printed on large
size demy paper, with new types recently imported
from Wilson's foundry; it would make its appearance
after the arrival of each mail (Sunday excepted)
which made the publication dates Monday, Wednesday
and Friday of each week; it guaranteed to furnish its
readers with a "well-written, beneficial, and original
essay once a week"; it would be furnished to subscrib-
ers at three dollars per annum; and publication would
begin after five hundred subscribers were obtained.76
Besides this undertaking, the editors proposed to ac-
company their Eagle with a Price Current, to appear
each week on a half-sheet, containing
a list of all the articles which may be deemed
necessary for merchants and dealers; - the prices
to be regulated by a commercial gentleman of
respectability, whose name will be affixed to
give it sanction.
The price of the Eagle with the Price Current would be
four dollars per year, but the newspaper might be
taker- alone, if desired.77
Publication of the Eagle of Freedom was begun
about July 4 and continued through July 27, 1796,
