"Established, as a fortnightly, by Matthias
Bartgis. No copies are known, but in 'Bartgis's
Maryland gazette' of May 2, 1793, Bartgis announced
that he had established at Frederick-Town, two
newspapers, one in English - his Maryland gazette,
and the other in the German language - Der General
otaatsbote. How long publication of the latter
was continued is not known. - Evans.
Announced in Bartgis's Federal gazette of Decem-
ber 11, 1792: "The editor of this paper presents
his compliments to his friends and the public in
general, and begs leave to inform them, that he
has concluded to publish a German newspaper,
which will commence on the fifth day of January
next ... He is determined it shall be done on a
large demy paper ... The German paper, will be at
the moderate price of seven shillings and six-
ponce, per annum, to subscribers
