His printing equipment, with which he had made
the first attempt at printing in Washington County,
was offered for sale on Saturday, the twenty-fifth of
August, 1797:

To be sold by public vendue, on Saturday the
25th inst. at the English printing office in
Elizabeth-Town. An old font of printing types
and press, together with sundry other materi-
als thereunto belonging - Also a variety of
household furniture.37

It is interesting to note the contents and value of
the material in the printing office, and in noting,
one must admire even more the enterprise and accom-
plishments of this first printer of Hagerstown*
