occurs in the Telegraphe of December 3, 1798, where the
unanimous novel, Ambrose and Bleanor⁵⁵ was offered for
sale at six shillings sixpence, and the manufacture
and sale of printer's ink was announced. Ambrose and
Eleanor seems to have been a fortunate choice of a
first publication, for it proved so popular that it
was reprinted in 1799.⁵⁶

William Warner, the new partner, must have given
a strong impetus to the commercial side of the busi-
ness, which, as Hanna and Greene, had given Baltimore
%wo of her typographically most attractive imprints.

in 1799 the new firm issued a variety of publica-
tions, among which were Samuel Knox's An Essay on the

Best System of Liberal Education,⁵⁷ a prize essay
accepted by the American Philosophical Association;
the Case of Jonathan Robbins, Examinee by Charles
Piackney;⁵⁸ and three publications for the prominent
lawyer, Thomas Herty, the Constitution of the United
States of America ... and, General Washington's Patern-
al Address ... on his Resigning the Presidency,⁵⁹ the
Militia Law of the State of Mary land ^6Q and Herty's

own compilation, A Digest of the Laws of Maryland,⁶¹
