occurs in the Telegraphe of December 3, 1798, where the
unanimous novel, Ambrose and Bleanor55 was offered for
sale at six shillings sixpence, and the manufacture
and sale of printer's ink was announced. Ambrose and
Eleanor seems to have been a fortunate choice of a
first publication, for it proved so popular that it
was reprinted in 1799.56

William Warner, the new partner, must have given
a strong impetus to the commercial side of the busi-
ness, which, as Hanna and Greene, had given Baltimore
%wo of her typographically most attractive imprints.

in 1799 the new firm issued a variety of publica-
tions, among which were Samuel Knox's An Essay on the

Best System of Liberal Education,57 a prize essay
accepted by the American Philosophical Association;
the Case of Jonathan Robbins, Examinee by Charles
Piackney;58 and three publications for the prominent
lawyer, Thomas Herty, the Constitution of the United
States of America ... and, General Washington's Patern-
al Address ... on his Resigning the Presidency,59 the
Militia Law of the State of Mary land 6Q and Herty's

own compilation, A Digest of the Laws of Maryland,61
