1800 tickets were to be sold at xo shillings each yielding a total of £900 of which £429 were to be given in prizes and the
remainder to be used for the bridge. After three months all unredeemed prizes were to be considered a donation. The judges
and managers were Rev. Thomas McPherrin, John Barnes, Esquire, Melcher Beltzhoover, Baltzer Goll, Martin Kershner,
Adam Ott, Esquire, and Richard Cromwell. Dated Elizabeth-town, March 12, 1790.

and the Potowmac ticket which was supported by Annapolis. There is a copy of the Chesapeake ticket (probably printed
in 1791) at the Library of Congress.

The author, the Rev. William Duke, was an eminent member of the Episcopal clergy of Maryland. He was born in
Baltimore County in 1757 and died in 1840. A volume of his manuscript poems is in the Maryland Diocesan Library. Also
his Diary from 1774 to 1813.
