subscription sum and was given a non transferable ticket for the season. In 1797 a subscription was taken and a dancing
hall was built on the north-east corner of Fayette and Holliday streets, designed by Colonel N. Rogers and built by Robert
C. Long, James Donaldson, Hessington, and Lander.

Evans describes but does not locate. No mention of George Buchanan was found in the three series of the Catalogue of
the Surgeon General's Office. His dissertation in Latin for the degree of Doctor of Medicine was published this year by
Prichard and Hall at Philadelphia. An advertisement of the Baltimore imprint appeared in The Maryland Journal, March
94,1780.

The proposal of James Cowan to publish The Maryland Herald and Eastern Shore Intelligencer. He gives the reasons for
establishing a paper on the Eastern shore and states the terms of subscription. When he had five hundred subscribers at
two dollars a year, he promised to start printing the paper. The first number probably appeared May n, 1790. See number
536 and pages 72-73.
