The proposals for printing this paper were issued on November 25, 1785, and the first number probably appeared on
January 4,1786. The paper apparently had a wide circulation for the places at which subscriptions might be taken included:
Liberty-Town, Baltimore, York-Town, Hanover-Town, Little's-Town, Tawney-Town, Middletown, Funk's-Town, Hager's-
Town, Green-Castle, Sharpsburg, Shepherd's-Town, Leesburg, Martinsburg, Winchester, Prince William County, Staunton,
Virginia and Frederick-Town. In order to have the paper delivered to distant places, Bartgis suggested that fifty-two sub-
scribers in a particular locality meet once a year and draw lots for the week on which they would go to Frederick-Town to
get the newspapers for the rest. He also proposed establishing a post from Frederick-Town to Winchester "for the purpose
of conveying my English and German News-Papers to Funk's-Town, Hager's-Town, Sharpsburgh, Shepherd's-Town,
Martinsburgh, and Winchester."
