Alley may be
opened

CHAP. CXIII.

An Act to authorise and empower Commissioners to open and extend the
breadth of an Alley in Westminster, in Frederick County.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Isaac Shriver, Jacob Mathias, John Fisher, Jacob Grove,
and Abraham Wampler, Esquires, or a majority of them, be
and they are hereby appointed commissioners, to view a ten
leet alley running from the main street, near David Kieffer's
tavern, in the town of Westminster, one hundred and ninety-
eight feet, to a sixteen feet alley; and if, in their opinion, the
public convenience would thereby be promoted, they are here-
by authorised and empowered to open and extend the breadth of
said alley to twenty feet, running at right angles with the main
street, taking in a part of the land of the late Jacob Sherman,
at the main street, and running down to a point at the said six-
teen feet alley, and into the land of the said David Kieffer.

Notice to be given
to persons con-
cerned

2. And be it enacted, That before the said commissioners
proceed to the discharge of the duties herein directed, they
shall give public notice to all persons concerned, by not less
than three advertisements, set up at the most public places in
said town, and be duly qualified according to law.

Damages to be a-
warded

3. And be it enacted, That if in the opinion of the said com-
missioners, or a majority of them, the public convenience would
thereby be promoted by extending the breadth of said alley,,
that then they shall award what damages, (if any,) the repre-
sentatives of Jacob Sherman will thereby sustain, which sum
shall be paid by the aforesaid David Kieffer, to the legal repre-,
sentatives of the said Jacob Sherman, deceased.

Allowance to com-
missioners

4. And be it enacted, That the said David Kieffer shall pay
the said commissioners a reasonable sum, not exceeding two dol-
lars each, as a compensation for their services.

Preamble

CHAP. CXIV.
An Act for Braining a Branch, ami the Low Lands at Parson's Creek and
Tobacco Stick, in Dorchester County.

WHEREAS it has been represented to this general assembly,
by sundry inhabitants of Dorchester county, that much perma-
nent benefit would result to the neighbourhood by opening a
ditch from tide water, at Parson's Creek, through a certain
branch, for the purpose of draining said branch, and the adjoin-
ing lands, to the head waters of Tobacco Stick Bay, near the
dwelling house of Martha Jones in said county; Therefore,

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Daniel Martin, Levin Woolford, Samuel Brohawn, Joseph
Stewart, John Gadd, William M. Robinson, Whitefield Wool-
ford, Jacob Todd and Thomas Jones, Joiner, or any three of
them, be and they are hereby authorised and empowered, to
meet on some convenient day in the month of April next, or
Within two months thereafter, which day of meeting shall be
appointed by the aforesaid named persons, or any three of them,
first giving to each of the persons before named at least five days
previous notice of such time and place of meeting, and on that
day forever thereafter, or on such other day, or at such other
place, as they, or any three of them, may appoint or adjourn
