CHAP. XLVII.
An Act to alter and change the name of Alexander Ewing, a Minor, of Tal-
bot County, to Alexander Ewing Dudley.
1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the name of Alexander Ewing, a minor, of Talbot county,
be and hereby is changed and altered unto the name of Alexan-
der Ewing Dudley; and it shall and maybe lawful for the said
Alexander Ewing, at all times hereafter, to be called and known
by, and to hold and use the name of, Alexander Ewing Dudley,
and by that name to sue and be sued in any court of law or
equity.

2. And be it enacted, That all securities, promises, con-
tracts, assurances, deeds, and lawful acts whatsoever, hereafter to
be made and done by the name of Alexander Ewing Dudley,
shall be of the same force and effect, and equally avail to all in-
tents and purposes, as if the name of Alexander Ewing Dudley
had been the original and proper name of the said Alexander
Ewing,

A Supplement to an act, entitled, An act to alter and amend the Charter of
the City of Annapolis.

Evidence of the
existence of claims
for taxes
|
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the passage oi this act, an account, with the
affidavit of the collector, or of his executor, administrator or
successor, as the case may be, having possession of his books
stating that the same stands open on his books, and remains un-
paid, shall be prima facie evidence of the existence of the claims
of the corporation for such taxes now or hereafter to become

due; Provided, that this aet shall not extend to any claim due
said corporation which shall exceed the sum of ten pounds cur-
rent money for any one year, or which shall not be proved
within twelve months after the first article charged in said
claim, or account, shall have become due.

CHAP. XLIX.
An Act to incorporate a Mutual Beneficial Society in the City of Baltimore,
by the name of Saint Patrick's Society.

Preamble
|
WHEREAS it is the duty of society in general to afford as-
sistance to those of its members who may be incapacitated by
sickness, or other casualties, from supporting themselves and
their families: And whereas Francis McMahon, Charles M'Girr,
Matthew Hughes, James Kerr and John McMahon, and others,
duly considering this obligation, and the greater liability of
particular persons to become objects of such charity, and more
particularly to prevent themselves from experiencing such mis-
fortune, have formed themselves into a society under the name
of Saint Patrick's Society, for the purpose of assisting each
other, when sickness, or other misfortunes, may occur to them-
selves or families, and have petitioned the general assembly of
Maryland for an act of incorporation ; Therefore,
