1826.

Passed by the General Assembly of the State of Maryland
at December Session, 1826.

No. 1.

THE General Assembly of Maryland, feeling the most un-
dissembled sorrow for the irreparable loss of the illustrious Jef-
ferson and Adams, do RESOLVE unanimously, That the chair of
the president of the senate, that of the speaker of the house of
delegates, and the chair of the governor in the council chamber,
be covered in black during the remainder of the present session,
of the general assembly.

No. 2.

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be, and
lie is hereby authorised, to pay unto the several members of the
late electoral college of the senate of Maryland, and the offi-
cers thereof, and also to the several members of the present ge-
neral assembly, and the officers thereof, and to their respective
orders, the several sums of money now due, and that may from
time to time become due to them respectively, and for which
they shall obtain certificates from the chairman of the committee
on claims of the present house of delegates.

RESOLVED, That a joint letter be addressed by the president
of the senate, and speaker of the house of delegates, to the
honourable Samuel Smith, informing him of his re-election to the
senate of the United States.

RESOLVED by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
treasurer of the western shore fcay to Benjamin Tomlinson, of
Allegany county, or to his order, the sum of thirty-two dollars.

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore pay to
Morton Tagart, or to his order, the sum of two hundred dol-
lars, as a further remuneration for apprehending a certain Hen-
ry Snively, by virtue of the proclamation of the governor, on
the 28th day of October 1825.

The committee on ways and means to whom was referred so
much of the executive communication as relates to the states'
claims on the government of the United States, for expendi-
tures in the last war with Great Britain, have had the several
matters of this reference under consideration, and beg, leave to
present the following report —
Deferring, for the moment, a special notice of the claim for
principal, of which a considerable balance yet remains due, for
