CHAP. CCXLIV.
An Act to build a new Poor's House in Calvert County,
1, Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the levy court of Calvert county be and they are hereby
authorised and empowered, to levy upon the assessable property
of said county, such sum or sums of money as may enable them
to purchase so much ground as they may think necessary, and
to procure, or cause to be erected thereon, suitable buildings to
answer for the reception of the poor of the county aforesaid;

Provided, That the provisions of this act shall not lake effect
until they have sold the. present poor's house of that county,

and the appurtenances thereunto belonging.
2. And be it enacted, That when the said buildings shall
have been procured or erected, they shall be delivered over to
the trustees of the poor of the said county, and that the institu-
tion shall be liable to the laws, rules and regulations, prescribed
for the government of the present poor's bouse.

CHAP. CCXLV.
An Act concerning: the Washington Monument.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the treasurer of the western shore be and be is hereby au-
thorised and required, to pay to the president, or to the mana-
gers of the Washington Monument, any sum not exceeding
twenty thousand dollars, during the present year, for the fur-
ther completion of the Washington Monument, provided that
sum shall be received from the avails of the lottery system,

2. And be it enacted,, That the inscriptions on the said Mo-
nument shall be expressive of the gratitude of the state of Ma-
ryland, and the Monument shall be held and considered as the
property of the state.
