CHAP. 230.

a house or houses built thereon as aforesaid, the said trustees'
shall proceed to sell tt public auction, or otherwise, as they may
leem most advisable, the present poor's house of said county,
and lot of ground attached thereto, on such conditions as they
may deem most advisable, the proceeds of which sale shall be
applied towards the payment of the purchase of ths tract of land

Levy authorised.

4. And be it enacted, That the levy court of Charles coun-
ty be and they are hereby authorised and required to levy
upon, the assessable property of the county, upon the applicati-
on, in writing, of the trustees of the poor, stating that they
have purchased land, or determined to build on the land upon
which the present poor's house is situated, such siim as may be
necessary to carry into effect the provisions of this act, provid-
ed that a sum not exceeding two thousand dollars shall be levied
in any one year.

Allowance for
bailiffs

CHAP. CCXXXI.
An Act relative to the compensation of Bailiffs in Montgomery County.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland
That constables of Montgomery county, when acting as bailiffs
to the court, shall be Entitled to one dollar and fifty cents per
day, to be paid in the same manner that their present allowance
is now paid.

CHAP. CCXXXII.
An Act for the Relief of George Calmes, of Allegany County.
WHEREAS it appears to this general assembly of Maryland,
that a certain John Hoye, of Allegany county, by his assign-
ment, bearing date on the nineteenth day of December -eighteen
hundred and twenty-six, did assign to George Calmes, of said
county, a certificate for a certain tract or parcel of land, lying
and being in said county, called Western Canal Convention, in
which the county surveyor of said county has included three
warrants of escheat, the examiner-general having examined and
passed the same, and the treasurer for the western shore having
received the full amount of the caution money, as reference to
the said certificate will appear, and the register of the land of-
fice having doubts as to his authority to issue a patent therefor;

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the register of the land office for the western shore be and
he is hereby directed and required, to issue a patent, in due
time, to George Calmes, of Allegany county, for a tract of land
called Western Canal Convention, lying and being in Allegany
county aforesaid.

An Act for the Relief of George Dawson, of Caroline County
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland
That from and after the passage of this act the marriage con-
tract between George Dawson and Rebecca Dawson, is hereby
declared to be annulled and destroyed, and the said George
