of the proceeds of their labour, a sum of money not exceeding
thirty dollars, at their discretion, and discharge the same, and
the said Convict shall fee banished the state of Maryland; and
if any such discharged convict shall be found within the li-
mits of said state after the expiration of sixty, day s subsequent
to the day of their discharge, he or she may be apprehended
and sold, by any person finding him or her, as a slave for the
term of Ms or her original conviction, upon proof being shown
to any judge of a court of record, or any two justices of the
peace of the county where said discharged convict shall be ap-
prehended, that he or she has been confined in and discharged
from said penitentiary.

10. And be it enacted, That the salaries of all officers,
Agents and servants, as shall be authorised by the legislature,
or appointed by the directors under the authority of the act
passed at- December session 1817, shall be fixed and regulated
by the legislature alone, and all such parts of said act which

authorises the directors to fix and regulate said salaries, are
hereby repealed; Provided, that the salaries, as they are now
fixed by the directors, and which they are authorised to give,
shall remain and be paid to the several oificers until the same

are altered by a future legislature.
11. And be it enacted, That the board of directors may ap-
point two of their number who shall be styled The Superin-
tending Committee, who shall attend three days in each week,
one hour at least, at the penitentiary, and one hour at least at
the store in the city, and shall perform the several duties im-
posed on the superintending committee appointed by the direc-
tors in the year eighteen hundred and twenty-five; and the said
Committee shall be allowed, out of the profits of the institution,
two dollars per day for each and every day they shall neces-
sarily attend.

CHAP. CCXXX.
An Act to authorise the Trustees of the Poor of Charles County to purchase
Land and build a new Poor's House.
I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
*That the tastces of the poor of Chades county be and they are
hereby authorised to contract for and purchase a tract of land
not exceeding two hundred acres, of which not less than fifty
meres shall be in wood, for the use of the' paupers of said coun-
ty, and to ere£t suitable buildings of brick on the Ijmd so pur-
chased, for the accommodation of the said paupers, provided
that the purchase money for the said land does not exceed two
thousand dollars, and the cost of said buildings does not exceed
four thousand dollars.
