indenture, or an instrument of writing in the nature of a recog-
nizance, as evidence of any contract of apprenticeship entered
into in any one of the said courts, according to the provisions of
the act of assembly to which this is a further supplement, and of
the several other supplements to the said act

3. And be it enacted, That all contracts of apprenticeship
heretofore entered into in the said courts, either in the nature of
an indenture or of a recognizance, shall not be vitiated for defect
of form, but shall be good and valid to all intents and purposes;
Provided, that the terms of the said contract of apprenticeship be
fully and fairly expressed in the instruments of writing which may
be entered into for that purpose in the said courts respectively.

CHAP. CLVI.
A Supplement to the Act, entitled, An act to Incorporate Frederick Town,
in Frederick County.

Powers granted
alderman and
common council
|
1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the aldermen and common council shall have full power
and authority to enact and pass all laws and ordinances neces-
sary to preserve the peace, order and quiet of the town, to pre-
vent cock-fighting, horse-racing and drunkenness, within the
limits of said town; to prevent breaches of the sanctity of the
Sabbath day, and to prevent swine and geese from going at
large, and for the proper police of said town, not inconsistent
with the constitution and laws of this state, or of the United

States; Provided, that nothing in this act contained shall be
construed to authorise the said aldermen and common council
to provide for the punishment of breaches of the peace, which
are now punishable by law.

2. And be it enacted, That the aldermen and common
council may by ordinance provide for the paving and keeping
in repair of the streets, lanes and alleys, in said town, with the
assent thereto of a majority of those interested.
3. And whereas certain ordinances have heretofore been
passed by the aldermen and common council for the preserva-
tion of the peace, order and quiet, of said town, and for the
prevention of vice and immorality in the same, and certain
fines have been imposed, and punishments inflicted, in the exe-
cution of said ordinances: And whereas doubts are entertained
how far said aldermen and common council had power under
the act, to which this is a supplement, to pass such ordinances;

therefore, Be it enacted, That all acts done in pursuance of
said ordinances, and all fines imposed and collected thereunder,
are hereby confirmed and declared valid ; and no person or per-
sons shall be permitted to recover back, from said corporation,
any fine, tax or penalty, imposed and collected under the ordi-
nances passed as aforesaid.
