first Monday of April eighteen hundred and thirty.
4. And be it enacted. That the proprietors of said branch, or
any pf them, shall not, at any time after the said ditch or drain-
is cut and opened, permit or put fences, or other obstructions,
across or in the same; and if any of the said proprietors shall at
any time make watering holes in the said ditch or drain, or run
fences across, or otherwise obstruct the same, the said directors,
or a majority 0f them, may remove the nuisance, and fine the
offender a sum not exceeding two dollars for any one offence, to
be recovered as other debts, and applied to defray the general
expenses of cleansing the said ditch or drain.

5. And be it enacted, That in case of death or resignation,
refusal or disqualification to act, of the persons chosen directors,
at any time hereafter, it shall and may be lawful for the said other
directors to meet aa soon as may be thereafter, at their place
of meeting as aforesaid, to choose a person in his stead to act as
director till the next annual meeting of the said proprietors, and
if the directors therein disagree in such choice, they shall de-
termine the same by drawing lots for the person put in nomina-
tion, and the person in whose favour the matter shall be so de-
termined, shall be and he is hereby declared the director, to all
intents and purposes, until the succeeding annual election

An Act to rebuild or repair a Bridge at Federalsburgh, between Dorchester
and Caroline Counties.

Passed Mar 3, 1827

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Paul Conaway and Joseph Evetts, of Dorchester county,
and Thomas Saulsbury of Caroline county, are hereby nominat-
ed, constituted and appointed,, commissioners, to cause to be
rebuilt or repaired the bridge at Federalsburgh, on the divisional
line between the two counties aforesaid, and the said commis-
sioners are hereby authorised, empowered and directed, to en-
ter into contract with some person or persons, (other than them-
selves, or either of them,) to rebuild or repair the said bridge,
which said person or persons, .so contracting, shall give bond to
the said commissioners in the sum of one thousand dollars,
with such security as the said commissioners may demand, for
the performance of his or their contract .

2. And be it enacted. That when the said bridge shall be so
rebuilt or repaired, and received by the said commissioners,
and when the said .commissioners shall report to the levy courts
of Dorchester and Caroline counties respectively, the amount
of the expense for rebuilding or repairing said bridge, then the
said levy courts are respectively authorised, empowered and di-
rected, to levy the said amount at their first meeting after said
report, the one half on Dorchester county, and the other half
on Caroline county; and the said commissioners are hereby di-
rected, to report to the said levy courts respectively, at their
first meeting after the said rebuilding or repairing shall be com-
pleted, and the said levy courts of the two counties aforesaid,
are hereby empowered and directed, to levy the sum of two
dollars per day to each of the said commissioners tor their ser-
